The Paper Valley Garden Club (PVGC) is located in the Fox Cities region of northeastern Wisconsin, which includes the communities of Appleton, Darboy, Fremont, Grand Chute, Greenville, Hortonville, Kaukauna, Little Chute, Menasha, Neenah, New London, Sherwood, and Weyauwega.

The topography of the Fox Cities region varies greatly and this dramatically impacts local gardening conditions.  We live in what is called a "tension zone."  To the north are woodlands with conifer forests and to the south are prairie savannahs. Along the east, there is the limestone ledge of the Niagara Escarpment and in the west there are drumlin hills composed of rock and sand deposited by glaciers. In between there is clay -- soil that was formed under the ocean and thrust upward millions of years ago.  The area also has many large sources of water -- Lake Winnebago, Lake Butte des Morts, Little Lake Butte des Morts, Lake Poygan, Lake Winneconne, along with the Wolf & Fox Rivers.

Portions of the region are rated hardiness zone 5 and areas located further away from these bodies of water are rated hardiness zone 4.  Due to these vast differences of gardening conditions, our members have a wide range of gardening experiences and acquired knowledge.  We welcome you to join us to learn more and share experiences about gardening in the Fox Cities region.
